The Most Beautiful Nature Walks Around Hossegor and Seignosse

There's a phrase you sometimes hear (even though, fortunately, it's pretty rare):

"That's cool… What can we do at your place when there aren't any waves?"

Our answer is always the same:

Enjoy!

Yes, we love surfing. It's our job, but above all, it's our passion.

However, days without waves are also a chance to discover everything that makes the Landes coast—also known as the Côte d’Argent—so charming. And having grown up here, we can assure you of one thing: there’s more than enough to fill a day… a week… or even a whole lifetime!

Here are all our favorite activities—the ones we do on our own when the ocean decides to take a little break.

Take a walk around the Hossegor saltwater lake 🚶

This is probably our favorite walk.

The trail runs along the water almost the entire way and offers a variety of landscapes: historic villas, a pine forest, the entrance to the port of Capbreton, oyster huts, and magnificent views of the lake—and, when the weather permits, of the Pyrenees!

You can take a leisurely walk there, go for a run, or just go for a swim.

It's also a great activity to do with kids, who will discover their inner crab fisherman.

💡 Our tip

Set out early in the morning or late in the day during the summer, when temperatures are more pleasant...and watch out for oyster shells—they’re as sharp as they are inconspicuous

Experience the lake in a whole new way 🌊

Many visitors pass by the saltwater lake without really taking the time to enjoy it.

However, when the ocean is calm, it's often the best place to enjoy other activities:

- paddle

- Tahitian canoe

- swimming

- snorkel and mask in the canal

- Small sailboat lessons for children

At high tide, the most daring visitors can watch (or try, at their own risk) the famous jump off the Hossegor Bridge. Every summer, generations of teenagers make this a true rite of passage during their vacation!

The water there is often much warmer than in the ocean, and the atmosphere is ideal for families.

💡 Our tip: Always keep an eye on the tidal coefficients—when they’re high, the channel can be subject to strong currents. The same goes for your water activities: at low tide, it’s a lot less fun to have to walk back!

And this is just the beginning...

In the rest of this article, we'll share all our favorite spots—the ones we recommend to our family, friends... and our students when there aren't any waves.
